Sandberg & Söner machines, welds and manufactures large machines and components.
Volati acquired Ragnar Sandberg & Söner Mekaniska Verkstads AB in September 2008. The company has been established in the Swedish market since 1957 when it was founded by Ragnar Sandberg.
Sandberg & Söner manufactures, machines and assembles components and equipment for the steel, motor, and rail transport industry as well as for medical device companies. The company’s niche market is within large-scale components with tight tolerance specifications and short series and, in this case, frequently prototype production.
Sandberg & Söner’s customers are mainly to be found in Svealand (Sweden). They comprise some of Sweden’s largest industrial companies as well as major European companies with production facilities in Sweden.
Large-scale investments

The company offers its customers – besides components and machines – impressive knowledge within the field of construction and production technology. Although Sandberg & Söner has a relatively low export share their products find a worldwide application via their Swedish customers.
Sandberg & Söner is located in Fagersta and has an extensive and modern fleet of machinery which is the result of large-scale investments.
Development following acquisition by Volati
Volati acquired Sandberg & Söner in the autumn of 2008. Since then its fleet of machinery has been rationalised and the company has invested in new and modern machines.
The financial crisis and the recession certainly affected Sandberg & Söner but the company chose not to lay off its employees. Instead, the employees underwent competence development through internal development programmes. This approach further boosts the company’s long-term competitiveness and its attractiveness as an employer.
